Broken up by the Stono, Ashley and Copper Rivers, Charleston proper is comprised of six unique districts: The Peninsula (aka downtown), West Ashley, Johns Island, James Island, Cainhoy Peninsula and Daniel Island. Wherever you are, you’ll notice Charleston’s passion for the arts and delectable cuisine. Each year, Charleston hosts Spoleto Festival USA, founded by Gian Carlo Menotti. In addition to Spoleto, Charleston also hosts Taste of Charleston, Lowcountry Oyster Festival, Charleston Marathon, Charleston Fashion Week and more.
